Dr. Sunita Purushottam leads GBPN India’s mission as the Managing Director to accelerate the transition toward a net-zero and climate-resilient built environment. With over three decades of experience in sustainability, environmental management, and climate action, she brings deep technical, strategic, and implementation expertise to GBPN’s work at the intersection of policy, technology, and community impact.
At GBPN India, she oversees the organization’s strategic direction, partnerships, and national programs, driving policy reform, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building to advance energy-efficient and low-carbon building design. Her leadership focuses on strengthening GBPN’s institutional presence, aligning India’s building sector with global climate goals, and fostering collaboration between government, industry, and civil society.
A professional with a strong technical foundation and a hands-on approach to sustainability integration, Dr. Sunita combines deep technical knowledge with people-centered leadership. Her expertise spans environmental impact assessment, air pollution modeling, GHG inventories, carbon neutrality strategies, waste management, and ESG digital platforms across sectors and in the built environment
She has executed more than fifty sustainability and CSR engagements across India, the UK, the US, Mexico, and South Africa, holding senior roles at Infosys, Mahindra Lifespaces, SENES Consultants, and as a founding member of TREENI, a sustainability tech start-up. At Infosys, she laid the foundation for the company’s carbon neutrality and led its global sustainability consulting practice. At Mahindra Lifespaces, as Chief Sustainability Officer, she set industry benchmarks with India’s first net-zero energy building (Eden) and first zero-waste-to-landfill city (Mahindra World City Chennai), and spearheaded the Mahindra–TERI Centre of Excellence for energy-efficient buildings.
A recognized thought leader and speaker, Dr. Sunita has authored numerous white papers and represents GBPN and the real estate sector at national and international forums. She was instrumental in establishing the Decarbonisation Business Charter, India’s first and largest value-chain platform for real estate sector decarbonisation.
Driven by innovation, community engagement, and purpose, she continues to champion sustainability as a way of life. In her personal time, she enjoys baking, reading, and participating in community initiatives.
