Gautham is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur (Class of 1979), he started his career with Voltas Ltd, where he worked for 8 years. He then went on to become a Partner/Director of Opal HVAC Engineers Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, and RS Kulkarni HVACR Consulting Engineers, Pune
Gautham is an active member of the ISHRAE and has held several positions, including Chair of the ISHRAE Institute of Excellence, Chair of the ISHRAE Certification Program, and President of the ISHRAE Mumbai Chapter. He is the Publisher of the ISHRAE Journal Magazine.
He is also the Chair of the Healthcare Technical Group, which has developed the Healthcare Guide for HVAC in Healthcare Spaces. He is a member of the ISHRAE Clean Room Technical Group.
Gautham is a Fellow of ISHRAE.
